James P. Leonard, MD

Dr. James P. Leonard specializes in shoulder reconstruction, arthroscopy, and sports medicine. He completed a Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery Fellowship at Vanderbilt University, his residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center, and medical school at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago.

Dr. Leonard has served as team physician for organizations including the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League, Vanderbilt University, the University of Illinois at Chicago Flames, St. Ignatius College Prep High School, St. Rita High School, the Chicago Sky of the WNBA, Morgan Park Academy High School, and the Nashville Sounds Triple-A baseball team.

Beyond his clinical practice, he continues to serve as team physician for Carl Sandburg High School, Marist High School, Windy City Magic Basketball, and the American Hearing Impaired Hockey Association. He traveled to Finland in March 2013 to cover the USA AHIHA Olympic Games.

Dr. Leonard is a Master Instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he also reviews for Arthroscopy and the American Journal of Sports Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Association’s Emerging Leaders Program, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the Illinois Association for Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association.

He offers Saturday and evening hours, as well as Athlete Acute Injury Hours during each clinic.
