Valerie Stanford, DO

Dr. Valerie Stanford is an osteopathically trained primary care sports medicine physician, board certified in Family Medicine, and fellowship trained in Non-Operative Orthopedics. As an osteopathic physician, she takes a whole-person approach to medicine, treating all aspects of a patient’s health rather than just the injury in front of her. Dr. Stanford believes in using exercise as medicine and works to give her patients the tools to build healthy lifestyles naturally.

Dr. Stanford grew up in the Metro Detroit area of Michigan and double-majored in Human Biology and Psychology at Michigan State University. She earned her medical degree at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, IL, and completed her Family Medicine residency at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, IL, where she served as chief resident. She then completed a fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine with the University of Chicago/NorthShore.

Dr. Stanford sees patients at both the Oak Lawn and Orland Park offices and serves as team physician for Victor J. Andrew High School in Tinley Park and Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School in Chicago. She also assists her colleague, Dr. James Leonard, with coverage for Carl Sandburg High school and Marist High school as needed. She has an interest in clinical research and continuing education, has presented at several regional and national conferences, and continues to have an active role in medical planning for the Chicago Marathon every year. When she is not working, she is also an avid runner herself and is trying to complete all the Abbott World Marathon Majors (Only Boston to go!)
