On-Site Diagnostics: MRI & EMG

Getting the right diagnosis is the foundation of effective treatment. At Midwest Orthopaedic Consultants, we offer advanced imaging and nerve/muscle testing directly at our Orland Park and Oak Lawn offices so you don’t have to schedule a separate appointment at an outside facility.
Faster answers. Less inconvenience. And a treatment plan your physician can start building the same day.

MRI IMAGING

Clear Images. Confident Diagnoses.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) gives our physicians a detailed look at your joints, soft tissue, and spine — without radiation. It’s one of the most valuable tools in orthopaedic medicine for understanding what’s happening beneath the surface.

What MRI is used to evaluate

MRI IMAGING

What to expect during your MRI

You’ll lie still on a padded table that slides into the MRI scanner. The scan typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. During the scan, you’ll hear a series of tapping and buzzing sounds — that’s normal. You’ll be given the option of hearing protection or a stereo headset, and our technician will speak with you throughout the process to keep you informed of where things stand.

If you have concerns about enclosed spaces or have metal implants of any kind, please let us know in advance. We’ll make sure you have all the information you need to feel prepared.

EMG TESTING
EMG TESTING

Pinpoint Nerve & Muscle Conditions with Precision

Electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS) are used to evaluate the electrical activity of your muscles and the function of your peripheral nerves. These tests help our physicians diagnose conditions that imaging alone can’t always detect.

What EMG is used to evaluate

What to expect during your EMG

An EMG typically involves two parts. During the nerve conduction study, small electrodes are placed on the skin and a mild electrical impulse is used to measure how your nerves respond. During the electromyography portion, a thin needle electrode is briefly inserted into specific muscles to record their electrical activity at rest and during movement.

The test is performed by one of our physicians and usually takes 45 to 60 minutes. Some patients experience mild discomfort during the needle portion, but most tolerate it well. Your physician will walk you through what to expect before the test begins.

WHY ON-SITE DIAGNOSTICS MATTER

Less Waiting. More Answers.

When imaging and testing happen in the same practice as your orthopaedic care, everything moves faster. Your physician reviews your results directly, in context, and can discuss your findings with you at your next visit rather than routing results through a separate facility. For workers’ compensation patients, on-site MRI and EMG services can also be authorized and performed without leaving the practice, reducing delays in return-to-work timelines.
